Description(English) | Given the flexibility of ribbon and its colour-revealing property on its flat surface, ribbon was chosen as the major pavilion material to give a softer version of Hong Kong Palace Museum’s archetype, the Hall of Supreme Harmony in Beijing. The iconic architectural elements like caissons and golden pillars were reinterpreted by weaving and linking the ribbon with a total length of 2,500m. The established veil-like milieu also suggests an abstract existence of the museum in its Hong Kong version. Modular-system construction was adopted to better control the non-extendable property of ribbon and to allow swift fabrication on-site. |
