Grand Jury Panel 2024
Barnabas Wetton is Associate Professor in Communication Design and Head of International Innovation at Designskolen Kolding. His responsibilities include developing the school’s relations to relevant organisations and institutions across the world. This has included developing two major programmes with NASA – the last of which took place in Houston and resulted in Danish Design Award (2017) and the European Design Award (2016). His teaching work is part of the permanent collection at MoMA in New York. In his early career he developed schools for Tigray Province, Ethiopia, bridge building in Peru and a number of years reporting on Denmark for the BBC World Service.
Most recently in conjunction with PRATT he developed a series of online courses for the students addressing (amongst other issues) how design can foster the democratic process. He is currently working on a bilateral Danish/French initiative celebrating Tour de France in Denmark and Paris. His work is driven social and visual innovation and most importantly integrating societal understanding into form and action. This has taken him Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Ghana), Shih Chien University (Taipei), Greenside Design Centre (South Africa) and a number of other institutions. As part of his own design research he is working with Typographer and Designer Rikke Hansen on an experimental typographical project and this year has been selected to join a joint poster exhibition at The Danish Institute in Beijing.
