In 2010, Sungchan Ko joined Samsung Electronics after earning his B.S. in Mechanical and Automotive Engineering from Kookmin University and an M.S. in Smart Design Engineering from the International Design School for Advanced Studies (IDAS) at Hongik University. Since then, he has dedicated himself to industrial design in advanced innovation projects, ranging from automotive concepts and wearable robots to rollable smartphones and mobile healthcare. Later, at Samsung Research, Ko’s role expanded beyond product aesthetics to encompass robotics, AI avatar–related experiences, exhibition design, and overall industrial design direction. His work across these diverse domains was showcased from 2018 to 2023 at international venues such as CES and featured in IEEE journals, reflecting a commitment to bridging cutting-edge technology and user-centric solutions.

Beyond his project work, Ko has actively explored new ways to integrate AI technologies into the design process—developing experimental prototypes, testing creative applications, and sharing his insights through numerous collaborative initiatives. Since 2023, he has conducted over twenty Design Engineering Workshops and Gen-AI Design Workshops at institutions including Seoul National University, Hongik University, Kookmin University, Konkuk University, Korea National University of Arts, and KDM+ under the Korea Institute of Design Promotion. In addition, he served as a mentor and industrial design juror for “Seoul Design 2024,” hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Design Foundation, where he was also honored with the Grand Prize (Experience category) at the 2024 Best Design Awards—a prestigious accolade among Samsung Electronics’ in-house designers. Ko’s multifaceted experience exemplifies his ongoing mission to fuse creative vision, technological expertise, and human-centered perspectives in the dynamic field of design.
